🍞 The Last Supper – A Night of Love, Betrayal, and a New Covenant

"This is My body... This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."
(Matthew 26:26–28)

In a quiet upper room in Jerusalem, on the evening before His crucifixion, Jesus gathered with His twelve disciples for what would be their final meal together. Known as The Last Supper, this moment would become a cornerstone of Christian faith — marking the institution of the Eucharist, the revelation of betrayal, and the beginning of the Passion.

📍 1. Preparing the Passover Meal

(Mark 14:12–16, Matthew 26:17–19, Luke 22:7–13)

On the first day of Unleavened Bread, the disciples asked Jesus:

"Where do You want us to prepare for You to eat the Passover?"

Jesus told them to follow a man carrying a jar of water to a house, and they would find a prepared upper room. They did as instructed and made preparations.

🕊️ 2. Jesus Takes His Place at the Table

(Matthew 26:20, Luke 22:14, John 13:1–2)

As evening came, Jesus reclined at the table with His disciples. He knew that His hour had come — the hour of departure, pain, and glory.

"Having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end."
(John 13:1)

⚠️ 3. The Prediction of Betrayal

(Matthew 26:21–25, Mark 14:18–21, Luke 22:21–23, John 13:21–30)

Jesus said:

"Truly I tell you, one of you will betray Me."

Disturbed, the disciples began to ask, “Is it I, Lord?”

Jesus replied:

"The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with Me will betray Me."

Then He said to Judas Iscariot:

"What you are about to do, do quickly."
(John 13:27)

And Judas left the room... and the night grew darker.

🍷 4. The Institution of the Holy Eucharist

(Matthew 26:26–29, Mark 14:22–25, Luke 22:19–20)

Jesus then took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to His disciples saying:

"Take and eat; this is My body."

Then He took the cup, gave thanks, and said:

"Drink from it, all of you.
This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."

In that moment, Jesus established the Holy Communion — a sacred remembrance of His sacrifice.

🧼 5. Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet

(John 13:3–17)

In a powerful act of humility, Jesus rose from the table, wrapped a towel around His waist, and washed the feet of His disciples.

He said:

"If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.
I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."

It was a lesson in servant leadership: true greatness lies in humble service.

🌌 6. The Final Words and Departure

(Matthew 26:30, Mark 14:26, Luke 22:39, John 14–17)

After the meal, they sang a hymn together, and Jesus delivered His final teachings — words of comfort, warning, and unity.

He prayed for His disciples, for all believers, and then they departed for the Mount of Olives, where Jesus would pray in agony in Gethsemane, and ultimately be arrested.
